The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is offering a free course as a part of its Massive Open Online Course. The course is entitled Social Media for Journalists: The Basics.

This course aims to provide journalists, media practitioners and the general public with knowledge about finding and distributing news and information in social media. Students will be introduced to common platforms, techniques, and ethical considerations.

This is a five-week course that will begin February 3rd and end March 9th. Five experts with practical experience in newsrooms in the United States will teach this course: Ryan Thornburg(University of North Carolina Chapel Hill), Craig Silverman (Poynter Institute and Spundge.com), Sharif Durhams(Milwaukee Journal Sentinel), Daniel Victor (New York Times) and Amanda Zamora (ProPublica).
