Yes, those dates are correct, we caught ourselves slippin’! But luckily there’s still another good month and some change to check out the HBCU Art showcase (presented by the New Orleans (LA) Chapter of The Links Inc.) at the Ogden Museum. The curated show of works includes students attending Dillard University and Xavier University of Louisiana, two of Louisiana’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
We also suggest taking a look at the Louisiana Contemporary from our local artists and next month the Solidary and Solitary exhibition.
And if the art world is something you haven’t quite grown interest in or comfortable with remember these words from Mr.Jay-Z:
“F**k livin’ rich and dyin’ broke
I bought some artwork for one million
Two years later, that shit worth two million
Few years later, that shit worth eight million
I can’t wait to give this shit to my children
Y’all think it’s bougie, I’m like, it’s fine
But I’m tryin’ to give you a million dollars worth of game for nine ninety-nine”
P.S. Thursday Admission is free from 10am to 5pm for Louisiana residents and Ogden After Hours weekly entertainment series is from 6-8pm.
An interesting twist on a night out for some music, dancing and vibing. The Atlanta based party is rolling into Nola Thursday night and letting you play DJ. Get your nap in after work then make your way to 14Parishes – 1638 Clio St. for 10pm.
Who doesn’t love a pre-party to not only get you ready for the weekend but also one of the biggest annual concerts in the area. Thursday night at Apres Champagne Lounge the fellas of HereWeGo Ent., Red Carpet Events and Big Stan Productions have you covered. And there’s still time to RSVP for free admission until midnight!
Friday at Poor Boys Bar, 2 Drunk Queens are at it again with DJ Jess from 10pm-until. You know we love an all female machine! #BlackGirlMagic What else we are loving about this duo is how much fun the atmosphere is, there’s nothing extra to their math. Simply good music and space to dance and move about as freely as you like – yes, this is a twerk-friendly zone. Since you also won’t be breaking your bank on that bar tab you can spare some dollars for NAMI. Each party these ladies throw they are ready to give back and this Friday your donations benefit the National Alliance of Mental Illness in Nola and their #NAMIWalks team that hits the pavement Sept. 30.
LilWeezyana Fest returns to Champion Square this Friday for what feels like, a pop-up concert. Yes, we know it’s happening and it’s starts at 6pm, but typically that’s all you get. The details come out slowly in pre-show interviews but ultimately is revealed when you show up to see the magic. Everyone has their guesses on who will hit the stage but you just never know as the past has shown us. Who are you hoping graces us with a few bars at the fest this year?
