“There’s an unspoken message that the only stories worth telling are the stories that end up in history books. This is not true. Every story matters. We are all worthy of telling our stories and having them heard. We all need to be seen and honored in the same way that we all need to breathe.” – Viola Davis
TheBlackProfessional.com is happy to announce a partnership with Propellor and Trepwise during Black History month this year. This project will highlight Black Entrepreneurs and their ventures each day of the month in a hope to share these business owner’s unique stories and obstacles they’ve faced navigating their industry and making their business a success.
While this is nothing new to TBP’s community, there are common issues that we know many black entrepreneurs face when trying to get their business of the ground and flourishing. We too often ignore the conversation of racial disparities in our communities. In New Orleans, the population is approximately 66% black, with an underwhelming 30% of those individuals being business owners and 2% having access to capital.
Propellor and Trepwise have convened their own networks which include: GoodWork Network, The Idea Village, Rising Foundations, New Orleans Regional Black Chamber of Commerce and PowerMoves .NOLA and NOLABA to nominate black-owned businesses across the Greater New Orleans area.
Each week you can visit our site to see the latest group of professionals featured and each of their inspiring stories by clicking on their image. Keep up with this initiative on social media #BHMINola
